LUJZA’S STORY
Probably Lujza’s parents were NOT married.
During the war the mother was in a work camp in the Ukraine and the daughter was hidden with Hungarian farmers.
At some point Luzja thinks she and her mother were in Budapest.
The mother was sent to Auschwitz in 1944 where she was killed.

The daughter ended up in the Ghetto in Budapest, Hungary from November/December 1944 till Jan 19th 1945 when the ghetto, located in Buda, was liberated by the Red Army. Pest was liberated only in the middle of February after fierce fighting.

In 1945 “Gordonia – Maccabi Hatzair” brought her to their children’s home in Budapest.
On March 3rd 1948 Lujza was brought from Hungary through France to Israel on an Hungarian passport.
She arrived in Haifa with the ship Transylvania on March 23rd 1948.

LUJZA’S FATHER
The big question is: Who was Lujza’s father? Who knew her mother and father during the years 1938 – 1939 and can tell Lujza about the circumstances of her birth?
On a birth certificate she has obtained from Novi Sad the father’s name is NOT written down. This is the reason we think that the parents were not married.

RESEARCH JOURNAL JUNE 2005
NOVI SAD, YUGOSLAVIA
Who knew Ruzica Hirt and her family in Novi Sad?

GORDONIA – MACCABI HATZAIR, BUDAPEST
If we could locate lists from the years 1945 – 1948 from Gordonia Maccabi Hatzair in Budapest, perhaps we would find more information about what happened to Lujza and her mother during the war.
