LEON'S STORY During the war Leon fled with his parents from Poland to Kaukas, Baku, Alma-Ata and then to Samarkand. To see a clear map of Uzbekistan and Samarkand, click here www.samarkand.info/ html/maps.html His parents disappeared (died?) BEFORE Leon arrived in Samarkand in 1943-1944. In 1946, he was repatriated with a group of orphans from Samarkand to Gostynin in Poland. In Poland he was placed in a children's home in Lodz ran by the Zionist Koordynacja organization. Leon was then brought from Poland through Germany to France. To get him into Eretz Israel, then under the British Mandate, he seems to have been signed up (as part of Aliyah Daled ) as a "temporary son" of a family named Wishinsky family. Leon must have come with them aboard the ship Alexandra from Marseilles, arriving in Haifa on Nov 30th 1947. Who were the members of the Wishinsky family? So far, we don't know. *BROJTMAN / BREJTMAN / BRAJTMAN / BREITMAN* Any information about Brojtman / Brejtman / Brajtman / Breitman families who fled eastwards into the USSR during World War Two, may narrow down our search. Checking the database of the KARTA Institute in Warszawa http://www.indeks.karta.org.pl/wyszukiwanie.asp. for any clues of possible family members listed among the around 200000 Polish citizens affected by the Soviet regime, these were found: No Breitman. Srul (Israel) Brojtman, son of Israel, born 1901 Possibly his wife: Frajda Brojtman, daughter of Moszek, born 1901 Probably his daughter : Rywka Brojtman, daughter of Srul, born 1924 Abraham Brajtman, son of Aron, born 1913 Brother(?): Mojzesz Brajtman, son of Aron, born 1917 Wife of one of these two? Sara Brajtman, daughter of Jakub, born 1920 Eliasz Brejtman, son of Mojzesz, born 1893 *POLISH ORPHANAGES RETURNING TO POLAND IN 1946* Again, our hope is that lists of Polish orphanages returning from the USSR to Poland on the Repatriation program in 1946, will include Leon's name and possibly some information about him and his parents. I am looking for the relatives of Leon Breitman who was born in Poland in 1897 and came to Israel in 1936. He past away, single without children in 1958. I have a similar picture with a family. My mother is the little girl. This could be the little boy in the picture? There is no date on the picture, but my mother says it is in Germany.

My father Simon Braitman was born in 1930 in Maciejowice, Poland. I believe the original spelling of his name was BRAJTMAN. He and his father Sam Braitman survived the holocaust but his mother Dora and siblings Celia & Moniek were killed. Simon and Sam came to the USA & Canada respectively after the war. About 10 years ago my father located some cousins (also spelled Braitman) whose parents had fled Europe for Argentina during the war. One cousin, David Braitman, may have more genealogical information. Send me an email if you'd like me to put you in touch with him.

We are trying to find the relatives of another Leon Breitman. "Our" Leon Breitman was born around 1895 - 1905 in Poland, the son of Abraham and Rachel Breitman. There is no information about any siblings or uncles or aunts. During WWII he fled from Poland to the USSR with a friend named Berliner. After the war he came to Eretz Israel where he fought in the War of Independence. In 1952 he left the country and settled in England or in Germany. He was later found dead in an apartment in Berlin. He was not married. We would like to find his relatives. Abraham Goldberg, Israel

My grandfather, Leon Troedler was searching for any survivors many, many years after WWII. We were told all our relatives on his family died in the Warsaw uprising. Good luck with your search. Tania
