MIRALE’S STORY
Mirale was one of the very young survivors arriving in Israel after the war. She was probably born in 1943.
She could of course not give any information herself about her identity and where she had been.

TWO SMALL GIRLS NAMED MIRIAM RUBIN.
In Mirale’s file from “Aliyat Ha’noar” there is a note mentioning that she is “Mirjam Rubin.”
In the Arolsen Archives we found two little girls named “Mirjam Rubin,”
both brought from Poland, through the “Koordinacja” organization.

We located the other “Mirjam Rubin”, born in 1942 in Czestochowa, who was reunited with her father Alexander Rubin in a DP camp in Germany after the war, and who emigrated with him to Israel.

The first “Mirjam Rubin,” listed as born in Ternopol on May 8th 1943, daughter of Abram Rubin from Ternopol.
An additional card shows one Abram Rubin born in 1911 in Ternopol, a survivor, who stayed for some time in Germany after the war. Is this Mirale’s father or another Abram Rubin?

In any case, this gives us at least two possibilities:
1. That Mirale really was born in Ternopol in 1943, and survived the war there, despite the German occupation. This seems less likely.

2. That Abram Rubin and his wife had fled from Ternopol eastwards in the summer of 1941 and stayed somewhere in the Soviet Union where Mrs. Rubin gave birth to Mirale in 1943. Listing little Mirale as being born in Ternopol would in 1946 give her the privilige to go back to the country her father had been a citizen before WWII. In 1945 Ternopol was no longer within the borders of what had become the postwar Poland, so Mirale was therefore not returned to Ternopol, but sent to southern Poland.
Did she come with a Polish orphanage to Poland in 1946?
Did a private person, possibly a relative, bring her to Poland in 1946?

MIRALE’S FATHER ABRAHAM RUBIN
Did Abram Rubin survive the war? Is he the Abram Rubin born in 1911, listed as a survivor?
Did he lose track of his daughter when she was brought through Europe to Eretz Israel?
Who was Abram’s wife and the mother of Mirale?

THE RETURN TO POLAND IN 1946
Will Mirale’s name be found on any of the documents now being collected at the KARTA Institute in Warszawa?
